Building Your Own Dashboard
You can create custom dashboards tailored to your role or workflow. Build a sales-focused dashboard with revenue charts, a project dashboard with upcoming event lists, or a management overview with team performance metrics — it's entirely up to you.
Getting There
From any page, click Dashboard in the sidebar. Then click the actions dropdown and select Create, or if you have no dashboards yet, click the Create dashboard button on the welcome screen.
Creating a New Dashboard
- Click the actions dropdown on your current dashboard (or the Create dashboard button if this is your first).
- A new blank dashboard is created automatically and opens in edit mode.
- You'll see an empty grid layout with location zones — this is where your widgets will go.
Understanding the Layout Grid
Your dashboard is divided into a fixed grid with different zone sizes:
| Row | Zones | Width |
|---|---|---|
| Row 1 | 4 zones (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4) | Quarter-width each |
| Row 2 | 2 zones (2-1, 2-2) | Half-width each |
| Row 3 | 1 zone (3-1) | Full width |
| Row 4 | 4 zones (4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4) | Quarter-width each |
This gives you 11 zones to place widgets in. Each zone can hold multiple widgets stacked vertically — there's no limit to how many widgets you can place in a single zone.
Choosing where to place a widget:- Quarter-width zones (Row 1, Row 4) — Best for compact metric widgets like event count, event value, or conversion rate
- Half-width zones (Row 2) — Good for charts, smaller lists, or breakdowns
- Full-width zone (Row 3) — Ideal for wide tables like event lists, invoice lists, or monthly sales by user
Adding Widgets
In edit mode, each zone displays a + button. Click it to add a widget to that zone.
- Click the + button in the zone where you want the widget.
- Choose a widget type from the dropdown list.
- Configure the widget settings (filters, date ranges, display options).
- Click Save.
The widget appears in the zone and begins loading its data. See Adding and Configuring Widgets for a detailed guide to every widget type and its settings.
Rearranging Widgets
In edit mode, you can drag and drop widgets to rearrange them:
- Click the Edit button on your dashboard to enter edit mode.
- Grab a widget by its header bar.
- Drag it to a new position within the same zone (to reorder) or to a different zone entirely.
- Drop it in place — the new position is saved automatically.
Tip: You can stack multiple widgets in a single zone. They'll appear one below the other, and you can drag to reorder them within the zone.
Renaming a Dashboard
- Click the actions dropdown on your dashboard.
- Select Rename (or Edit dashboard).
- Enter a new name and confirm.
If you don't set a name, the dashboard defaults to "Dashboard".
Duplicating a Dashboard
Want to create a variation of an existing dashboard without starting from scratch?
- Click the actions dropdown on the dashboard you want to copy.
- Select Duplicate.
- A new dashboard is created with all the same widgets and settings, owned by you.
This is particularly useful if someone has shared a dashboard with you — since you can't edit shared dashboards, you can duplicate it and then customise your copy.
Downloading as PDF
You can export a snapshot of your dashboard for offline viewing or sharing:
- Click the actions dropdown on your dashboard.
- Select Download as PDF.
- The PDF is generated and downloaded to your computer.
The PDF captures all widgets as they currently appear, making it a useful way to share dashboard views with people who don't have access to EventWorks.
Deleting a Dashboard
- Click the actions dropdown on your dashboard.
- Select Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
Warning: Deleting a dashboard permanently removes it along with all its widgets. This action cannot be undone. If others are using this dashboard (because you shared it), they will no longer have access to it.
Tips & Best Practices
Tip: Start with one or two key metric widgets (like event count and event value) in the top quarter-width zones, then add a chart in the half-width zone and a list in the full-width zone. This gives you a well-balanced overview.
Tip: Create separate dashboards for different purposes — one for daily sales tracking, another for monthly management review, and another for project management. Switch between them as needed.
Tip: If you're setting up dashboards for your team, build a shared dashboard with the most useful widgets, then encourage team members to duplicate it and personalise their copy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a limit to how many dashboards I can create? No. You can create as many dashboards as you need.
Q: Can I undo changes to my dashboard layout?Widget position changes are saved immediately when you drag and drop. There's no undo button, but you can always move widgets back to their original positions by dragging them again.
Q: Why can't I see the Edit button on a dashboard? You can only edit dashboards that you own. If the dashboard was shared with you by another user, you'll need to Duplicate it first to get an editable copy.
Q: Can I rearrange widgets without entering edit mode? No. You need to be in edit mode to drag and drop widgets or add new ones. Click Edit in the dashboard actions to enter edit mode.
